Iraq officially known as the Republic of Iraq is a country in Western Asia, bordered by Turkey to the north, Iran to the east, Kuwait to the southeast, Saudi Arabia to the south, Jordan to the southwest, and Syria to the west. It is the 58th-largest country in the world. Most of Iraq has a hot arid climate with subtropical influence.
The majority of the Iraqi landscape consists of broad plains, which are disrupted by significant features such as mountains, a desert, two major rivers and vast swamplands. Iraq is home to two historically important principal rivers the Tigris and Euphrates. The courses of these rivers are roughly parallel, with both flowing across central Iraq toward the southeast.
